2013: Looking Ahead

by lauren on January 3, 2013

Hello my dears! It has been much too long. Alas, vacation is over and it’s time to get to get back on the wagon (and I also missed you all very much).

I had a relatively uneventful break, but it was relaxing and restful.  To start off the New Year, we got a new couch (!!!) and restored an old mid-century dresser to use as our new TV stand (I am a wee bit obsessed with the final product). Things are going swimmingly around here. And now, given that we’re starting fresh in a new year, I’d like to share with you some of the intentions I have for this blog.

1.)  I’m really interested in getting more reader feedback in terms of what content you value and crave.  This blog would be nothing if it weren’t for your interaction – I really value your comments and questions.  It helps me understand what problems the general population faces and helps me understand how I might add value.  Please continue to voice your opinions, questions, requests, and comments.  I really enjoy hearing your feedback.  I also would really like to get to know you.  Insight into who you are would help me connect more with you.  PLEASE tell me a little about yourself in the comment section today, then we can all get to know each other better (where do you live, what do you do?  what are your hobbies, what is your favorite item in your closet?) !!!

2.) I want to make my site even more instructional and help teach you how to dress for life.  I want to be a resource and a source of inspiration.  When I relaunched my site on January 24 of 2012, I aimed to focus on what would help and inspire my readers, not just what I “felt” like writing in each post.  I think this works for you guys, given that my post on how to style colored denim and my other post on how to wear white jeans for fall have been the most viewed (and they are “teaching” type posts).

3.)  I want this site to be the total clothing package – from how we shop, to what we buy, to how we organize our items, then how we get the most use out of our clothing.  I want to diversify and bring some new topics to the table rather than always focusing on “buy this!” and “buy that!”.  It is more fulfulling for both you and I if we can cover the spectrum when it comes to clothing, not just what we think looks pretty.

So there you have it, my intentions for 2013.  I have really loved writing this blog and sharing with you – and I hope you’ll join me for the ride!

My favorite post of yours– that I’ve actually used in my real life– is the one where you showed how to style a grey t-shirt 3 ways. EVERYONE has a grey shirt. It really helped me to be more creative with what I have in my dresser! Looking forward to what 2013 brings!

Hi Mrs Type A! Glad the grey t shirt post helped so much! I will work on doing more like this with other basics!

It’s really hard to pinpoint one thing I love about your blog Lauren…. Gotta love your style posts, as well as the polyvore sets, not to mention posts that are focused around one specific piece or trend! All in all I think you do a fantastic {and very practical job which I appreciate} job and where ever your heart leads your blog in 2013, I know this follower will be along for the ride :)

I love your blog so there aren’t many suggestions I have. I always love the ideas you give for dressing for events..bachelorette, baby shower, etc.
I have a trip coming up so many ideas oh what to pack for winter and summer trips. I am the worst packer! :)

    • http://stylizedexistence.com/blog Lauren Corso

Hi Kristen, thanks for commenting. I will definitely do an in-depth packing tips guide for later in the year. Good idea – I am also a reforming bad-packer :)

Yay you’re back!! I love when you style one piece multiple ways and when you show various price point options of similar pieces. Keep up the good work and can’t wait to see what you have in store for 2013!

      Yay!! Hi Sarah!

  • http://profiles.google.com/a.mccormick.25 Anne McCormick

I like your how-to posts and also the one piece multiple ways. Keep up the great work! My favorite items are comfy so suggestions on how to look goo when comfy/casual would be great too.

    • http://stylizedexistence.com/blog Lauren Corso

Hi Anne! Thanks for sharing – I will continue to provide one piece multiple ways – and I love comfortable items too, so I will definitely continue to share those types of options.

  • JW

    So glad you’re back!

One thing I struggle with and would love to see a post on is determining the appropriate type of outfit for specific events. I don’t have trouble putting together attractive outfits, but I often find that I’ll go somewhere wearing jeans when everyone else is in dresses and vice versa! In the same vein, I find it especially hard to determine when dresses are too formal or too casual or just generally not appropriate for a particular setting, so I’d also love to see some of your professional guidance for that :)

    • http://stylizedexistence.com/blog Lauren Corso

Thanks, JW! I will work to provide guidance in the future for what is appropriate for certain events and what is not. Good idea! Happy new year to you.

I hope you had a wonderful holiday. How exciting… a new sofa! It really changes a room, doesn’t it? I am 56 and dressing well is a hobby since I don’t have to go to work daily. Yes I put on cute clothes to run my errands. …why not? I live in a suburb of a large east coast city. Since I AM quiet, I like to let my clothing speak for me. It often starts a conversation with a
stranger! My favorite item may be a string of pearls my husband selected for me. .. but I don’t wear them very often. Two other favs are a JCrew blackwatch plaid shirt. and a Jcrew factory purple cord. My request is this… I do live in a JCrew box.
I need to step out of it with a leather jacket or some other unique statement piece. I also am in the market for a new leather bag. ( I don’t want HUGE.) Thanks so much for asking,Lauren. I missed you and I am so looking forward to hearing what you have to say in 2013!

    • http://stylizedexistence.com/blog Lauren Corso

Thanks, quietgirl, for sharing! I happen to live in a little bit of a J Crew box as well, although I venture out every now and again ;) That’s probably why you like my blog! I am glad to learn more about you :)

  • Shannan

    Hi Lauren,

I LOVE your blog and check it almost daily. I am an event planner in the southern U.S. My favorite item in my closet right now is a faux leather jacket that I got from Forever 21 and and a tissue mock turtleneck that I got from JCrew. I am a JCrew kind of gal but finances prevent me from my whole wardrobe consisting of it. I also am in a war with my weight so that’s another factor in the style dilemma.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE your teaching post. I commented on your “How to Style Colored Denim” and more of those would be great.

I could also use a packing tutorial in that I always pack way too much and never wear half of it. My problem is I don’t know what I will feel like wearing when I get there and I want to have options. Sad, isn’t it?

I love your idea of the site being a total clothing package and was thrilled to hear that you are doing segments on how we organize our clothes and get the most use out of them.

So, love your intentions for the year! I love forward to reading more. Happy New Year!

    • http://stylizedexistence.com/blog Lauren Corso

Hi Shannan! Thanks for telling me more about yourself. I also have a faux leather jacket from Forever 21 from about 3 years ago that I love! I am glad you like the teaching posts, I definitely plan to keep those up. I also will plan a packing post as a few others have mentioned that as well. Glad to have you as a reader!

  • Marisa

Hi there! My name is Marisa, I live in Seattle. I have two young babies and love yoga, running, baking an reading! My favorite thing in my closet is anything from LuLuLemon and a pair of black Fry boots. I love your posts for fashion ideas and really value you. Thank you!! I work for Starbucks corporate and it is a fairly casual (but fashionable) work environment. All ideas are welcomed for work inspiration!!

    • http://stylizedexistence.com/blog Lauren Corso

Hey Marisa! I think we would get along. I also love Lululemon and have a hard time not wearing it all day on the weekends. I have plenty of work inspiration and will make sure it finds its way to the blog in the new year.

  • Gaby

Happy New Year Lauren! Looking forward to read Stylized Existence this year ;)
PS: Almost 2 weeks for ALT !!!!!

    • http://stylizedexistence.com/blog Lauren Corso

Hi Gaby!!! Can’t wait to see you!!

  • Jessie

Hi Lauren my name is Jessie. I really like your blog especially how to use use one item multiple ways and also different price points. I work full time and am currently going for my MBA. For that reason I’m on a budget and need to be able to wear things for work which is business attire and I also for church and to hang out. I do tend to buy things and then not have a clue on how to put them together with the things I already own. Ugh! Your blog is so helpful so keep up the good work.

    • http://stylizedexistence.com/blog Lauren Corso

Hey Jessie! Thanks for telling me more about yourself. One tip I have for you is that when you are shopping, try to consider how you will wear something (with your own closet items) before you buy. If you can’t think of more than ~three ways, don’t buy it. You will be happy you did this – and then when you have a closet full of items you can wear in many ways, you will feel like your budget stretched further than when you buy those items that you wear once or wear the same way every single time.

  • Julie Hart

Hi Lauren, I live in the DC area, work full time and have 2 kids. I am right there with the reader from Seattle. I love lululemon and try to stylishly mix those pieces with everyday wear. (Btw that would be a great post, hint hint). My favorite things in my closet are my skinny jeans, my scarf collection, my new Hunter boots, though it hasn’t snowed yet, (figures!) and my lululemon cool racerback tanks. I frequently shop at forever 21 and H&M though I love JCrew and Zara. I especially love your teaching posts like how to do current trends and budget finds! Keep up the great work!
    Julie
