I posted last year about how I occasionally allow myself to get into a winter slump; I used to form a bad habit of wearing drab colors all winter, which led to an overall feeling of discontent with my wardrobe. In an effort to avoid that experience this year, I am embracing colorful items in my winter outfits. For example, I got incredibly lucky while visiting the J. Crew factory store on Tuesday when they had just put a ton of skimmer pants on clearance. I scored the maraschino cherry and bright dahlia for $18 and $24, respectively and also stumbled upon a multi-colored tweed skirt for $24. When I got home that evening, I started playing with combinations in my closet and thought I’d share some similar inspiration with you.
For a holiday party, you might consider the fun red wool dress + purple suede shoes combination. Keep it playful with dotted tights, a sweet (and affordable!) bow ring, and a classic envelope clutch. If you’re looking for a weekend laid-back combination, why not bring back some of your colored denim from last season, a bright pair of rain boots, a neutral striped top. The addition of a beige snood and a slouchy brown bag will help ground this outfit. Lastly, I am guilty of heading to Whole Foods most weekends dressed head-to-toe in Lululemon, but occasionally I try to make more of an effort and throw jeans on. The combination of a faded pair of grey jeans, a super fun polka dotted Nike sweatshirt, and red chuck taylors with a cute heart-graphic reusable bag will definitely do the trick and still allow for comfort.
