How to Wear it: Summer dresses for Winter

November 27, 2012

It’s often hard for us to conceptualize taking clothes into new seasons when we normally deem these items as only one-season-appropriate.  I like to get a lot of wear out of my clothes though, so when I purchased this aztec scarf (thanks to my friend Sarah for finding it first!) I knew the shade of blue in the scarf would go perfectly with my striped Stylemint dress.  In order to make it more appropriate for the 40 degree weather we have been having in Cincinnati, I paired it with black opaque tights, my new comfortable Aldo boots, and a black sweater.  I gave the outfit some shape by cinching the waist with a studded J. Crew (which is from a few seasons ago, but here’s a good alternative).  What summer items are you still wearing into fall/winter?  Is anything stumping you?

Absolutely love this idea – and I have a similar striped dress that I can try it with! :)

I think you transitioned the dress perfectly! Looks great with black tights.

Way to winterize Lauren! I have a hard time working in pieces that are mostly white — you did a great job! And that scarf? Super cute!

Such a cute & cozy outfit! Love how you winterized the scarf and the dress, and what a gorgeous pattern :)

Very cute! I think the black definitely helps it feel fall/winter appropriate. I’ve been meaning to find a way to winterize my striped summer dress, but that route doesn’t feel right since it’s navy and white (maybe pair with chambray? works for everything in my book!). I’m inspired to try black tight & boots with some of my skirts now though…

Anne! Dark brown tights and taupe boots…. or burgundy tights and dark brown boots… give it a try! Or another fun color tights – yellow perhaps! and taupe boots!

Ooh, I do have taupe boots… Thanks!
