Work that Color

July 26, 2012

Top: Forever 21 (v. similar) // Skirt: J. Crew // Belt: Target (in stores) (similar) // Shoes: Fergalicious via DSW in other colors (similar) // Clutch: Old Navy (old)

Although it’s nothing too fancy, this is my ideal work outfit.  Polished, but with a little extra oomph.  I don’t like stuffy, but often times office wear unfortunately correlates with stuffy.  This is photographic proof that you can create an outfit that is both polished enough for a professional workplace, but still allows you to show that you have a sense of style.  Don’t fail me ladies, ditch those plain cotton button downs for some feminine, bold colored tops!  Styling Tip:  Buy some basic investment pieces for the bottom half of your look (shoes, skirts, pants) and then break out the colors, fabrics, and patterns for the tops.  Creating outfits is so much easier if you have a strong foundation (bottoms in classic cuts and colors) to build upon.  In case you’d like more ideas for how to style a peplum top, see the other way I wore this top here.

P.S.  I shared my five intentions over on Jess’s blog, Makeunder My Life, yesterday.  I would be thrilled if you headed over to check it out, and stay a while, because Jess’s blog is very unique.  She is incredibly wise beyond her years, and her advice is brilliant.

Great work outfit! The color and peplum shape look fantastic on you. Much better than pants and a button down {although to be fair that is exactly what I’m wearing today!}.

So perfect! That’s pretty much my favorite color at the moment, and my favorite type of outfit – simple yet polished, with oomph.
p.s. I love your hair (mine has just a little ways to get there, but I love that length!) and even more, loved your five intentions post. All good reminders and inspirations.

Anne – I took about 7 inches off in the last few months! I am still getting adjusted to the length!!! Thanks for the nice note about the intentions… tough and fun to write.
